ADRIAN ALONSO [DOT] NET EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH ADRIAN
Luis & Julia: Friends from the website and forum, here's one of the surprises we have told you about. Adrian Alonso gently accepted our interview invitation.
L & J: Thank you Adrian for taking the time to do this interview.
Adrian: Thanks, I'm glad to be with you guys.
L & J: Well We'd like to separate the interview into 3 parts, Part 1: Adrian and his daily life, Part 2: Adrian and the Website and Forum, Part 3: Adrian and his projects.
Adrian: Ok
L & J: Well first of all, could you describe a day off movie set ?
Adrian: It’s a really cool day. I go to school, I play basketball, I got to clubs with my friends or play the guitar and I go to the cinema.
L & J: and on mornings do you let the alarm clock ring several times ?
Adrian: (laughing) I like that moment of the day, Every morning, when the alarm rings, I think to myself"5 more minutes please". But I like going to school. When I have to wake up to go on set its even earlier.
L & J: (laughing) I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t say “5 more minutes please” when the alarm rings.
L & J: We know you have an older brother, Toño, unless we are mistaken. How is your relationship with him? We have brothers and sometimes we don't agree with each other. Has there ever been any big fight between you ?
Adrian: My brother and I don’t have big fights. We are two boys, so since he is 18 and I’m 15, he can give me some advice. We just have little silly fights just like every brothers.
L & J: What did your family (especially your parents) said when you told them "I want to be an actor" ?
Adrian: The first time i told them they didn't believe me, but i insisted and they spoke to my uncle, who produces theater shows. He gave me the role of Chip in the play "The Beauty and the Beast". Then i did more than 30 commercials and took acting class at the CEA Televisa and finally started playing in movies!
L & J: Follow your dreams my friend, as soon as you love what you do, everything is fine. You gave a little of your heart in each character you’ve been playing and I think that is what caught your fans’ eyes.
Adrian: Yes i love what i dot. People like you guys and all my fans make me love my job even more. I want to touch people's hearts and give them a little bit of joy.
L & J: Another thing we would like you to tell us, how you do with school. They normally kick students out when they miss school more than 3 days. How does it work with you ?
Adrian: When i got accepted in this school, they already knew i was an actor and they decided to support me. The most important for me is to have good grades and to be at the same level as my friends.
L & J: Not too hard?
Adrian: The hardest thing is to catch up with all the school work when I’m away on set.
L & J: And how do you do that?
Adrian: My friend give me their notes.
L & J: and what is your average? Any problem with a subject? I hope you will not tell us you don’t want to talk about your private life…(laughing)
Adrian: No, I think my average is 8.5/10, I have some problems with math.
L & J : And believe me, from experience I can tell you that math in middle school is a lot easier than high school.
Adrian: Are You Kidding .....
L & J: And do you have a girlfriend? On the forum we saw a picture of you and a pretty girl…
Adrian: We broke up a long time ago, We are only friends now...
L & J: And you don’t have a crush on any girl at the moment? We saw some pictures of you and another beautiful girl at the premiere of “Arrancame la Vida”.
Adrian: No I am not in love right now, and this girl is just the daughter of my mom's friend, she is a lot older.
L & J: Ok. and tell us, is it easy for you to make new friends? What do you do with your friends?
Adrian: I enjoy going to the theater or starbucks or just walk in the streets near my house.
L & J: When you are hanging out with your friends, are you always happy when some people on the streets recognize you and come over you to get autographs and pictures ?
Adrian: It's very nice. If they do that, it's because they like my work and i'm always happy to give autographs and take pictures.
L & J: and what would happen if you realized that one of your friends is only hanging out with you because you are a star ?
Adrian: It never happened, as i knew most of my friends before being famous. And plus, i don't think im a star, i'm only an actor. Stars are only in the sky.
L & J: You're right. After the success of La Misma Luna, how did you do to keep Your Feet on the Ground?
Adrian: Live a normal life! and I have to thank god for letting me do the things I like. Its cool that people watch my movies and then contact me (using the forum). This helps to keep fans following my work .. I have a great family, they treat me like a normal child.
L & J: Family is very important and you’ve got a really good one, they helped you starting in the acting business
Adrian: And everything went slowly so i could enjoy my school, my career and my whole life!
L & J: And to finish the first part of the interview, when "la misma luna" came out, i watched some talkshows Mexican TV, and noticed that you had only been invited to a few interviews etc, but the other actors were interviewed a lot more. how did you feel about that?
Adrian: Well they invited the most famous actors from the movie. But its ok because when people saw the movie they thought my acting was good.
L & J: Well Adrian, can we start with the second part of the interview ?
Adrian: YEAH
L & J: Well when Jul began working on the site/forum, was she in contact with you? or were you in contact with her first?
Adrian: I was happy to find and that someone made a whole site about me, and 2 months later i contacted Julia.
L & J: how did you get in touch with her?
Adrian: My manager and I talked about it, and I started sending pics and information by email but sometimes i dont understand how she manages to get some pictures, because I don't even noticed when photographers take them. And now its easier for her because you help with the spanish version and its easier for me to understand and pass the info to someone spanish.
L & J: Well let me tell you, Jul is a very dedicated person. Sometimes I'm very impressed when she shows me pics of you. I don’t understand how she manages to get them!
Adrian: right she is awesome and I don’t know how to thank her for this.
L & J: Why did you decide to make this site your official site?
Adrian: Well, when someone gives you something like that without asking anything in return, and believe in you from the very beginning, this is just the least I could do.
L & J: Who took the decision to make a Spanish version of the forum and website? because I (luis) remember it was only an english forum and website before.
Adrian: it was Julia’s idea with your help and support. I think the website and forum is growing a little more each day, what do you think?
L & J: I really see the forum growing, more users are joining us and its a great pleasure for me.
Adrian: When i first visited the site, there was only 500 visits and now we have more than 46000 so it's really cool.
L & J: And when “El Muro de la Lado” will come out, a lot of new people will join us!
Adrian: Well, with the strikes and crisis, we can’t be sure of when its coming out. But we are hoping for a release in August
L & J: Does your family visit the site? Do they like it?
Adrian: They were all touched when i told them about the site. My aunt, who lives in Ireland visits it. All the pictures I give have a link to the site printed on them, and on April 11 I will have an interview with radio formula and I will promote the website.
L & J: One last question about the forum
L & J: Some fans said you don’t spend as much time on the English forum than on the Spanish one. There are plenty of questions waiting for your answers. What’s up with that ?
Adrian: I don't have a lack of interest in the english forum but it's very hard for me to understand the questions and even harder to answer in english. I don't want to make big mistakes.
L & J: Well I (Luis) can help you by translating all the English questions into Spanish for you to understand them. And then help you to answer them.
Adrian: Yeah ok if you don't mind
L & J: Ok now the English forum problem is fixed, we can continue with the third part of the interview
L & J: Tell us a little more about the latest character you’ve played : “Eleuterio” in “El muro de al lado” or again “Parking Lot”.
Adrian: its about a child living in a orphanage. He works at the national lottery and has a scholarship but when he turns 15 he will loose it, and cant work at the lottery anymore. Beside the orphanage, here is an asylum in the middle of a parking lot. Some people want to build buildings in the middle of this parking lot. Old men from the asylum and kids from the orphanage decide to escape to protest against that.
L & J: when its out I'm going to watch it with my family and friends. I went to see "under the same moon" like 5 times.
L & J: Ok Adrian. The movie’s release date has been changed many times. Do you have an exact for the movie premiere ?
Adrian: According to the latest news I got, it should be out on September. Because in July and August big movies are coming out so its not good for us to release the movie during the summer. But i recommend you to see two Mexican movies "COSAS INSIGNIFICANTES" and "SIN NOMBRE". One of my friends is playing in them.. The same girl who was with me at the "ARRANCAME LA VIDA" premiere.
L & J: I haven’t heard of them, but trust me I will go see them. I like Mexican movies. We really need to support the Mexican movie industry.
Adrian: Mexican movies are improving.
L & J: Yes, I support mexican movies, but my family and friends don’t really like them.
Adrian: We must support them. Sometimes Hollywood movies aren’t that good but made with more money than Mexican movies
L & J: I'm in full agreement with you.
Adrian: For example, an independent Mexican movie cost aprox $2'000,000 to be made when a spiderman movie cost $ 300,000,000. This is a huge difference. Also Mexican movies are usually done in 5-8 weeks and American movies take 6 to 12 months
L & J: why this big difference ? lack of sponsorship ? economy?
Adrian: Mexican movies dont have the glamour of the American ones. the actors dont get millions. Here during a filming, producers have so many things to do, and in America they can get assistants to help them.
L & J: In your opinion what does the Mexican movies need to become an industry like the American one ?
Adrian: We need to keep doing good movies. only a few movies gain the money they costed. They need to put the movie out when there aren’t big productions on theatre.
L & J: this is why “parking lot” is looking for the better date to premiere. I just hope it wont be like “Under The Same Moon”. we had to wait 2 years until a release.
Adrian: but “under the same moon” had first been presented during a few festivals, and after that we needed to protect it from piracy. innocent voices was illegally sold with english subtitles when it was not even on theatres.
L & J: what do you think about piracy ? what do you think we could do to stop this? because it doesn’t only affect the film industry, it also affects all the entertainment industry.
Adrian: We have to educate people, they could get a better quality of life, and it could create more jobs and better pay
L & J: Did you get a chance to see this year’s 8 oscars winner “Slumdog millionaire” ?
Adrian: No, when I went to the movies it had already started and now its no longer on the movie theaters where I live, I will rent it when I get a chance.
L & J: OK. What happened to the movie"omissions" you were supposed to film in Argentina? I’m personally very excited to see you playing a bad guy.
Adrian: The director told me the production has been delayed to May or June. Also, im actually not 100% sure to be in the movie but its ok, if Im not, im sure I will get another good project
L & J: What do you mean by “im not 100% sure to be in it” ???
Adrian: When a director tell you “you are a part of the project” and then the project doesn’t work, its always very hard and stressful for me so now I try to take those kind of thing less seriously. I think only god knows if I will be on this movie or not.
L & J: Speaking of projects, what happened to "Cristeros" and "Lost In Los Angeles" ?
Adrian: Well the "Cristeros" producer told me an investor is interested in making the movie. And for "Lost In L.A"… they are making some change in the script because some people would like to buy it, but the writers strike in Los Angeles makes the thing going slowly.
L & J: What about your short film "Ayuda" ?
Adrian: I will film it during the summer when i wont have any projects.
L & J: And what is your short film about ?
Adrian: Wait until I’m done filming it, It will be a surprise for you all.
L & J: Ok sounds good
L & J: Was it hard to write the screenplay ?
Adrian: No, it wasn't hard for me, I love to write. My mom said my story was very tragic, but I think this is a chance for young people like me to realize what is going on in the world
L & J: we are looking forward to see it.
L y J: Do you like to do movie promo?
Adrian: Look, i love working on set and create a character. when im done with a movie, I have to give some interviews and its really cool because they always want to know more about the role and they are happy to meet the person behind the role and how it is to work on tv or movies.
L & J: Which of the character you played is your favorite?
Adrian: All the characters are very special to me. For example "Chele" in "Innocent Voices" was my first movie role. Prisiliano in Al Otro Lado is a poor child that is really in need of lots of things. Joaquin was a challenge for me because the other actors, Catherine Zeta Jones and Antonio Banderas were huge Hollywood actors. Carlitos is a loving and caring boy who could do anything to find is mama.
L & J: What is your current project?
Adrian: On Friday i went to artist’s world tour 2009 for human rights and talked to 1200 people about how the children can save the planet.
L & J: What was the conference about ?
Adrian: We have 30 Human rights and not many people know that. If we inform them about that, their lives can be better.
L & J: ok and if i want to know what 30 rights are i must go to the conference ?
Adrian: Each artist has a right to represent. Itatí Cantoral, who is pregnant, represents the right to live. Daniela Scmitd represents the right to no violence, there are other rights like the right of freedom, the right to play, to study and many others.
.... .. It will be a tour, I don’t know when its starting yet. Not all the artists will be able to go on tour but some will attend some cities.
L & J: which right are you representing ?
Adrian: I represent the right to play. Many kids have to work all day on traffic lights. I am the only child of the human rights project. All the others are adults.
L & J: Awesome. And the tour will be all over Mexico?
Adrian: The event will be created using the donations that the industries made. It will take place in “The Zocalo ». There will be millions of flyers for all the people coming. Of course I will tell you the exact date when I know.
L & J: Adrian, thank you very much once again. Do you have a last message for your fans?
Adrian: Thank you all for visiting the website and forum, and remember to try to achieve all your dreams everyday.
Interviewers: Luis Munguia & Julia H.
Thank you very much Adrian!!!
